New rates go into effect on Tuesday, August 20, 2019. Any new Biki plans purchased or bikes rented on or after August 20, 2019 will reflect the new plan rates and fees.

If you are a Hawaii resident on a Membership Plan, you will NOT see any increase to your base plan rate. However, all rentals taken on any plan on or after August 20, 2019 will be subject to the new Extra Time fees if you choose to ride longer than the plan’s maximum free time limit.

You will continue to receive the exceptional quality of maintenance and service that our customers have come to enjoy. Additionally, Biki has some exciting things planned in the near future, including more stations, increased customer support, and community outreach events. 

If you are a Hawaii resident on a Free Spirit Plan, you will NOT see any increase to the base cost of your Free Spirit Plan when it's time to renew. If you are not on auto-renew, Extra Time fees will be charged at the new rate once your balance of minutes reaches zero. All Free Spirit Plans purchased on or after August 20, 2019 will expire one year from the purchase date. On average, Free Spirit Plan holders deplete their minute's balance in 3-4 months. 

Free Spirit Plans purchased after 8.20.2019 will expire one year from the date of purchase. For those that renew, the expiry date will occur at the one year anniversary of the most recent purchase or renewal date.

No, the Free Spirit Plan auto-renew function only applies when your account balance reaches zero minutes. Even if you have Auto-renew set to “yes” at the one-year expiration date, you will need to login and purchase a new plan on your account to continue to ride.

At the one year expiration date, any remaining minutes on a Free Spirit Plan will be canceled unless a new Free Spirit Plan is purchased before the expiry date. In this case, a new set of prepaid minutes will be added to the account balance. For example, if you had 60 minutes remaining on a Free Spirit Plan that expires tomorrow, you can purchase another plan for $20+tax and will have a new balance of 360 minutes. The minutes will not roll-forward to an account if they are canceled so best to buy a new plan before it expires!

If you are a Hawaii resident on a Monthly Membership Plan, you will NOT see any increase to the cost of your monthly plan. The only impact to your plan will be any Extra Time fees which will now be charged at the new $4.50 / 30 mins, so be sure to choose the right plan that best suits you! Oh, and the name of plans have changed too from “$15 Monthly” to the “Commuter Plan” and the “$25 Monthly” to the “Voyager Plan”.

If you are a Hawaii resident that rents Biki's from the walk-up kiosk, we recommend that you check out our kamaʻāina plans online at GoBiki.org or on our Biki App. Note: If you have an existing 300-minute walk-up plan purchased at the kiosk then you must exhaust all minutes in that plan before re-enrolling as a member on the app or website.

Any walk-up plans purchased at the kiosk before August 20, 2019 will see their Extra Time fees increase to $4.50 / 30 mins. Any walk-up plans purchased after on or after August 20, 2019 will be at the revised rate and Extra Time fees calculated at the new $4.50 / 30 mins. Be sure to keep within your time limit if you want to avoid Extra Time fees!

The only impact on all membership plans will be the Extra Time fees. So, as long as you ride within the specified time limit applicable to your Membership Plan then it won’t matter if you sign up today or after the rate adjustment.

We're updating the walk-up rental rates at the kiosk to allow us to serve the growing demand for bikes and customer service for riders.

We want to maintain and continually improve our level of service and offer enhancements that will add value to our customers’ ride experiences while working to keep Biki as an affordable form of public transport.

Bikeshare is a form of public transportation and intended for quick trips around town. In fact, the average Biki member ride is only 19 minutes and 21 seconds. The 30-minute and 60-minute time limits on our Commuter and Voyager Plans ensure that bikes are continuously moving throughout the shared system and available for all riders. If you prefer to take longer trips and want to avoid the Extra Time fees, we recommend signing up for the Free Spirit Plan, which offers a bank of 300 minutes that can be used in any increment.

All system revenue generated by customer fees and memberships goes to Biki's operator (Secure Bike Share Hawaii) to cover the daily operating expenses and pay back the equipment purchased during the initial phase. This includes all applicable Oahu State and City and Country of Honolulu Taxes, maintenance crews, dedicated customer service channels, and all administrative and equipment costs. Once all past system debt is retired a portion of this will be shared with Biki’s operator and the non-profit organization, Bikeshare Hawaii. Learn more about the structure of Biki here.

Yes. Biki is introducing a new Access Program, offering qualified residents a rate of $10 for the Commuter Plan. This Monthly Plan rate will still provide the rider with an unlimited number of 30-minute rides each day. This is a part of a broader Access Program that Biki will be rolling out through 2020.
