After launching on June 28th we decided to hold a video competition to teach Honolulu #HowtoBiki! Riders gave biki a try and documented their rides and experiences for the chance to win biki swag and their choice of a Free Spirit Pass or a month of unlimited biki rides.

1. Starlet Shay submitted one of the first #HowtoBiki videos. She demonstrates how to use the mobile app, the biki stop kiosk, how to removeand return a bike and how to have a blast on biki! Not only is this how-to video thorough and accurate, it’s also bilingual!

2. The Others BC showed us #WheretoBiki during their night ride across urban Honolulu. They biki’ed to the bar for food and drinks and showed us that biking at night isn’t so bad when you have solar powered blinking biki lights to lead the way!

3. Odeelo and friends created this video after giving biki a try on our very first day of operation. They were the inspiration behind this competition and taught us that the best way to learn #HowtoBiki is from other biki riders!

Visit our youtube channel to watch other #HowtoBiki video submissions!

Have you given biki a try? Send your biki blogs, videos, photos or testimonials to info@bikesharehawaii.org. You may get featured on our social media pages and might even win some biki swag! Stay tuned for more competitions and promotions. Happy riding!

Biki is excited to partner with food and beverage establishments to bring you Biki Bites, a month-long promotion!

Want to win some cool Biki gear? Participate in our month-long #HowtoBiki video competition! We were inspired to launch this contest after receiving a video from an enthusiastic Biki rider on our first day of operation. Since Biki is a brand new system to Honolulu, we are asking our riders to teach others how easy it is to use the various components of Biki.

To enter, submit a how-to video describing one of the following:

1. Where to Biki
2. How to check out and check in a Biki bike
3. How to use the Biki app
4. How to ride safely
5. How to have fun using Biki!

We will select a winner in each of the 5 categories, who will receive a Biki themed gift basket consisting of a Biki bag, Biki tee, Biki hat and a Free Spirit Pass (a bank of 300 minutes to use whenever you like)! Other prizes may be awarded for videos that are creative, funny, or receive the most views/shares. Your video may even be featured on our website and social media channels!

To enter, send a link of your YouTube video with the hashtag #HowtoBiki to info@bikesharehawaii.org and we’ll post to our YouTube channel. The contest ends on 7/31 so please submit your videos before midnight to be considered!

After nearly five years of research, community outreach, feedback and public events, we are super excited to announce that Honolulu’s new bikeshare program, Biki, officially begins rolling out service this Wednesday, June 28 at 12:30 p.m.

On this momentous day, which both Governor Ige and Mayor Caldwell have proclaimed Bikeshare Hawaii Day, we kick off the celebration with a traditional Hawaiian blessing and ceremony downtown. We will be joined by Honolulu Mayor Kirk Caldwell, Hawaii Department of Health Director Virginia Pressler, M.D., Hawaii Department of Transportation Deputy Director Jade Butay, Biki’s major donors, as well as government and community partners in a ceremony to observe Biki’s launch.

If you would like to join us for the kickoff celebration, here are the details:
Wednesday, June 28
11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
South Capitol Lawn
then
Richards and Hotel Streets Biki Stop

Walking or biking is encouraged, but if you need to drive, parking is available at Alii Place.
Following the blessing and maile lei untying led by Kahu Kordell Kekoa, we will turn on the Biki Stops at 12:30 p.m., and you’ll have the first chance to check out a Biki bike at many of the 100 Biki Stops located from Chinatown to Diamond Head. Biki volunteers will also be on hand at three Biki Stops (Hawaii State Art Museum, Mililani and Merchant Streets, and Fasi Municipal Building) to help you get started and answer any questions.

This Biki Stop at JABSOM was installed last week; Biki bikes are arriving today and tomorrow as we get ready for Wednesday’s launch.

Since not everyone will use Biki the same way, we have four affordable fare options to select from. To get started, log onto biki12-23.test to sign up and purchase a pass before heading to a Biki Stop. Download the Biki App, available on Google Play, Android and Apple iTunes Store starting June 28.You can also sign up there and find lots of other tools that will enhance your Biki experience.

We hope that you will be among the first to try out Biki. Go, Biki, Go!

FREE “Bicycling Basics” workshops in June and July
at Biki Stops
We’ve partnered with Hawaii Bicycling League (HBL) to offer a series of “Biki Bicycling Basics” workshops free of charge for everyone interested in a refresher course on safety and rules of the road, and would like to try Biki for FREE. Workshops will be held at various neighborhoods within the Biki service area. Participants will review Honolulu’s bicycling laws, learn about good bike etiquette, and get a chance to try out a Biki bike to become acclimated with riding around on Honolulu’s streets during the workshop.

There is a participant cap of 10 so workshop reservations are on a first-come, first-served basis. Space is limited! Registration is easy and free, and can be done at www.HBL.org/BikiBasics. Participants must be at least 16 years old. Let your friends know which workshop you’re attending on our Facebook events page!

Helmets are required for the riding portion. Feel free to bring your own, if you have one, or you can request a helmet if needed (must be 24 hours in advance).

For more information on dates and locations for Biki Bicycling Basics workshops, visit www.HBL.org/BikiBasics or call Malia Harunaga of HBL at 808.735.5756 or Justine Espiritu of Bikeshare Hawaii at 808.726.1305.

The Biki team and HBL will also be at different Biki Stops throughout June and July providing on-site tutorials and providing a brief on safe routes as well as “Rules of the Road”. Exact location of these on-site tutorials will be posted on our Facebook page.
